A Hand Fan for the Holidays? Not Just for Heat Waves!

Hey!

It’s nice to be getting back to normal, isn’t it? The kids are back in school, we’re back at work, and suddenly – poof! The holiday season is already almost upon us (apparently the summer vacation wasn’t enough for the kids). Between grocery shopping, buying gifts, and making transportation arrangements for everyone, perhaps you’ve forgotten to think about setting your table? Whether you use paper plates, bamboo tableware or family china, we’ve compiled the most important tips for laying a beautiful holiday table – one that will blow your guests away and even leave them with a small gift to take with them at the end of the evening.

SET HOLIDAY TABLE DESIGN TIPS FOR TABLE DESIGN HOLIDAY SEASON

1. Atmosphere

What makes us feel good when we enter a restaurant? Lighting, smells, music. There’s nothing like a pleasant atmosphere to shake us out of our routine and bring us closer to the people we love over an indulgent meal. What’s our secret? Candles, candles, candles! Light several candles of different heights at the table and scatter a few more around the house. Not only do candles serve as a design element, they soften the lighting and provide a relaxing and spiritual atmosphere for those around the table.

We chose handmade brass candlesticks from Delicatessen’s home goods store.

PERSONAL TOUCH FOR TABLE DESIGN HOLIDAY TABLE TIPS

2. A Personal Touch

You’re hosting at home, so it’s important to make your guests feel at ease. As you can see, the key word here is “home” – so make sure to add a personal touch. No one needs you to start making handmade napkin holders, but you can certainly tie each napkin with a ribbon and place it next to the silverware, in the wineglass or on the plate. Feel like putting in a bit of extra effort? Go for cloth napkins – even simple white cloth will do the trick. Visit the amazing Blue Bandana shop to find special textiles for your table.

3. The Color Palette

Feeling overwhelmed at the home goods store? Decide on one main color and complement it with one or two secondary colors. Aim for designing 70% of your table in the main color, 20% in a second color and 10% in a third color. We chose pink as our main color, so all our china is from one set in a uniform pink color with small decorations (a big thanks to Grandma Shoshana for lending it to us). Our second color is white, so we covered the table with a white tablecloth and matching cloth napkins. Our third color is none other than gold: Gold cutlery, serving dishes and candlesticks will make those around the table feel like they’re at a royal meal.

CENTER PIECE FOR EVENTS HOLIDAY TABLE DESIGN

4. Centerpiece

The table's centerpiece is an indispensable element of any festive meal. You’re probably thinking about centerpieces at weddings – but we aren’t talking about crystal chandeliers here, not at all! A lush bouquet of flowers (ideally in your main color palette) arranged in vases at different heights will add just the right wow factor. Don’t be afraid to use both clear and opaque vases and combine different types of flowers and greenery – an eclectic appearance will add to the flow of your table design.

Our flower arrangements were done by Moshiko from Delicatessen.

5. A Gift from the Heart

A few times a year, the beloved and important people in our lives gather around one table to talk, make new memories and recall old ones. So why not pamper them with a heartfelt gift? It could be anything: homemade cookies, a scented candle or a piece of artwork you made with the kids. The important thing is to send everyone home with a full stomach and a happy heart.

Our holiday table is adorned with Stefania Gour‘s house model, which beautifully incorporates the main color we chose for the table design. Want something similar? We have eight more designer models to choose from, which will suit any elegant holiday table.
